Cabins on middle floors offer the best combination of access to facilities and less movement in the event of rough seas. Perhaps more so than the accommodation grade, the cabin location can significantly impact your cruise experience. I did not experience any unfriendly moments with crew members on MSC. Whenever I had a question, the crew was more than happy to answer, and I frequently found myself in long conversations with crew members about their lives and home countries. Because I need access to both my computer and phone while cruising, it was a pain to only have internet on one of them, and I didn’t feel like shelling out over $100 for internet on a second device.

On our first port day, the shore excursions team had no idea how to handle all the people reporting to the theater at their assigned times to get group numbers for their tours. To make matters worse, rain prevented the first tours from departing on time. The cruise industry has mostly moved to virtual muster drills; most other lines ask passengers to watch the safety instructions in their cabin or on the cruise line's app and then check in at your muster station at your leisure.
MSC offers limited free or affordable dining choices
We did find and attend one event meant for the entire family — a cupcake-decorating deck party. It ended up being chaotic, with long lines for the frosting bags (which were more for decoration than for taste, as we discovered), plus a raffle for which we had no idea how to get tickets. I'd take a little more organization over poor-tasting fanciful confections any day.

It then Took us 1 1/2 hours ( I timed it) to get out of the car park. Worst we’ve ever experienced and we’ve sailed from there quite a few times. So, the itinerary was great, Norway always delivers in all weathers.

The World Galleria, the ship’s indoor thoroughfare, was nothing short of gorgeous. Three decks high, the galleria was dazzling with lights, sculptures, and an LED ceiling that portrayed moving artwork. That being said, I had a few complaints, some minor and some major, about my MSC experience, including the lack of free water and stingy internet rules. Identical to its sister ship MSC Seashore in nearly every way, MSC Seascape features a glitzy, New York City-inspired aesthetic. The metropolitan glamour touches are best exemplified in the four-deck Atrium with its dazzling staircase featuring 10,000 Swarovski crystals. Cabins on higher decks will provide better views from balconies and suites, and good access to many of the ship’s amenities, but passengers may feel the ship's movement more. You may also hear more noise from outdoor activities on the pool deck.
We were instructed to scan the QR code the following morning to call the bar and make a reservation. Outside was the World Promenade, an open-air walkway with a restaurant, cafe, retail stores, bar, and ice cream shop. At the end of the promenade was The Lanai, an outdoor hangout space with unbeatable views of the ship’s aft. From the abundance of Italian food to stylish design and high-quality entertainment, my experience on the MSC World Europa was excellent—it completely wiped away any concerns I initially had about sailing with MSC.
Don’t get the drinks package!
Because the line is not as well known among U.S. cruisers as Europeans, MSC Cruises' Florida fares have always been competitively priced and it routinely offers kids-sail-free deals. I paid $2,658 total for four people to share a balcony cabin on a weeklong Western Caribbean cruise in July on the line's newest cruise ship, MSC Seashore. A more affordable option than most alternative restaurants is room service. A la carte pricing and delivery fees will apply to other cabin types, depending on the experience package you book.

For a luxurious experience, try a Suite with Private Whirlpool. These suites come with a queen-size bed and a large balcony with a private whirlpool bath. If you purchase your package onboard, you’ll be charged a 15% service fee on top of the package price. To avoid this fee, purchase your beverage package ahead of time.
MSC Cruises does not have an option to add your credit card online or in the terminal before embarkation. Instead, you must stand in line to use a kiosk to fund your cruise account after you board. I didn't want to give my kids permission to spend my money on soda and arcade games, and it wasn't clear how I should set limitations at the kiosk, so I had to ask guest services to help me with the confusing credit situation. The front desk queue was so long it snaked beyond the roped-off lanes, nearly out of the atrium lobby. There are only two ways to get free ice cream on MSC Seashore. Either you order it for dessert in the main dining room and get whatever flavor they're serving that day (there's no choice), or you head to the one buffet counter that offers snacks for one hour from 4 to 5 p.m.
Her biggest claim to fame is that she rocked the female vocals in Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love, But I Won't Do That." "Born to Rock," "One Day More," "Cool" and "Journey" are the ship's recurring shows, which each appear once per weeklong cruise. They focus on popular songs in the rock 'n' roll and pop genres, Broadway hits, music from the '70s and '80s, and cultural favorites from Spain, Italy, France and more. As you pass back and forth between events, don't miss the regularly scheduled dome shows along the Galleria Meraviglia promenade. You'll see the LED projections on the ceiling, covering topics like famous ceilings, dinosaurs, space and the changing of the seasons.
At the end of the day, cruising on a budget on this specific cruise line came with more logistical hassles and a lack of dining and activity choices that added stress to my vacation as the adult in charge. I put up with more queues, hassles and TV time than I prefer to on a family cruise. Had I known, perhaps I could have thrown money at the problem, but at that point, I could have a better experience for a similar price on another line. While having a standard list of menu items for breakfast was fine, every lunch service simply included pizza, a pasta station, grab-and-go burgers and hot dogs, a meat-carving station, a small salad bar and a display of deli meat.
Not only was the ship’s design perfectly elegant, but it offered more ocean views than I’ve come to expect on big ships. Despite its growth, MSC has been subject to negativity, with many cruisers complaining about the food, service, and programming onboard its ships. MSC Cruises might not be the most well-known brand in the industry, but it is still one of the biggest cruise lines, with plans to expand even more.
